Trial Lawyer - California & New York
   Barrister - England & Wales

Mr. Carrow is an experienced litigator, having attended to a number of high visibility trials, both civil and criminal. is one of very few American lawyers dually qualified to practice as an attorney in the United States (California and New York) and as a barrister in the United Kingdom (England and Wales).

He also attends to defense of white collar crime charges and extradition proceedings, as well as wrongful death and substantial personal injury cases. Mr. Carrow provides consultation and expert witness testimony to American colleagues on the law of the UK and like services to UK lawyers on USA law. In addition to litigation in its traditional sense, Mr. Carrow spends much of his time dealing with alternative dispute resolution proceedings, including dispute negotiation, mediation and arbitration. This site sets forth Mr. Carrow's background and practice detail.

Mr. Carrow's trial skills are evidenced by the fact that a substantial part of his practice consists of referrals from, and representation of, other lawyers.

Martindale-Hubbell, published since 1868, is unquestionably the most prestigious law directory in the United States and Canada. It includes some 900,000 lawyers and law firms in its publications. Based on direct inquiries of the bar and judiciary, Martindale-Hubbell, which covers all fifty states and each province of Canada, issues lawyer ratings where warranted. Since 1979 Mr. Carrow has held an AV rating, the highest issued by Martindale-Hubbell, an honor afforded approximately eleven percent of the bar. He is also listed in The Bar Register of Preeminent Lawyers, published by Martindale-Hubbell, which is made up of approximately three percent of the 900,000 lawyers and law firms referred to above.

Mr. Carrow divides his time between law offices in California and barristers' chambers in London.

In addition to time spent as a practicing lawyer, Mr. Carrow serves as a judge pro tempore of the California Superior Court, the highest trial court in the State of California. In that capacity, he has presided over more than twenty-five trials. Mr. Carrow is available as a mediator, arbitrator or private judge, as allowed by the law of California. His qualifications are further discussed in the pages that follow.

Mr. Carrow's commitment to cost efficiency has resulted in an increase in his involvement in the Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) procedures, discussed in further detail on his ADR page, accessible above. He has noted the cynicism which may clients bring to the judicial process, based in substantial part on the escalating cost of litigation. He engages in a cost-return analysis with each of his prospective clients to determine whether, at the end of the day, the facts and law justify the cost of bringing or defending the litigation. This necessarily involves an ADR analysis to ascertain whether the matter in dispute can be resolved outside the courtroom. Mr. Carrow is not wed to any particular billing practice and is willing to consider billing arrangements which best suit the client, including fixed fees, contingent fees, hourly fees and a combination of contingent and hourly fees where appropriate. All billing arrangements must, of course, fully comply with the applicable rules of professional conduct and the law of the jurisdiction in which his legal services are provided.
